NAVELIM DEFEATED BY VERNA 5-4

MARGAO: Verna Sports Club scored a 5-4 goal victory via tie-breaker against Navelim Villagers Union in a pulsating match of the Sao Jose de Areal Soccer played at Padribhat grounds, Sao Jose de Areal, on Saturday.
The teams were locked 1-1 in the first half of play, and there was no goal scored in the second session.
Verna shot into the lead in the very 5th minute of play through the powerful boots of Wilson Fernandes who gave no chance to react to the rival keeper.
Twenty minutes later, Navelim Villagers Union created an opening and beat the rival defence with superlatives passes. This move culminated into a goal when Sydney Colaco sent a pile driver to beat the Verna keeper hollow.
Thereafter the match rose to dizzy heights with the ball moving from one end to the other.
With the defence standing tight, no one could find the mark in the second session. As such the tie breaker system had to be applied to decide the winners.
In the tie breaker, Verna Sports Club proved to be better shooters as Euzebio Fernandes, Wilson Fernandes, Francis Fernandes and Lesly D’Mello scored accurately while for Navelim only Saford Cardoz, Richard Costa and Claudio Dias could find the mark.
