MARGAO: Cana Benaulim moved into the semi-finals of St Anthony’s Super Soccer tournament with a hard fought 2-1 victory in the semi-finals against St Cruz, Cavelossim at Directorate of Sports grounds, Colva, on Saturday.
Cana Benaulim were leading 1-0 at the break scored through Auzzy Fernandes in the 5th minute of play. Beating an offside trap, Auzzy moved up with the ball and sent a placement shot to beat the rival keeper.
Down by a goal, Cavelossim lads put up tremendous pressure over Benaulim lads and succeeded early into the second session to neutralise the lead. St Cruz, Cavelossim drew level in the 6th minute of the second half when Shaun D’Costa found the mark with a powerful drive.
The match was then played at a faster pace and proceedings also began to be rough as players from both the sides began to lose their temper.

Auzzy who scored a brace was declared as the man-of-the match. Referee Kashinath Parwar pulled in red card to Benaulim’s Roddy Fernandes and then served yellow cards on Luxsh Kurade and Pawin D’Silva. He also served yellow card on Neil D’Cruz of Cavelossim.
