Adarsh YS move into semis

MARGAO: Adarsh Yuvak Sangh, Saligao overcame a stiff challenge to defeat Goa Velha SC 4-3 via the tie-breaker and enter the semi-finals of Rossman Cruz FBM soccer at Nagoa grounds, Monday. Saligao will now meet St Sebastiao, Fatorda in the semi- finals on June 1.
Goa Velha were leading 1-0 at the breather with the goal coming from the boots of Newton Pereira in the 24th minute of the first half. However, Adarsh Yuvak Sangh restored parity in the 20th minute of the second session through Jayanth Chopdekar.
Both the teams dished out superb soccer, spraying the ball well on the flanks and bursting into sudden speed whenever required. The defenders of both the teams had a harrowing time to control the fast moving forwards wherein Francis Fernandes and Jayesh Chopdekar stole the lime light for Adarsh. Goa Velha’s forward Newton Pereira, Anthony Rego and Martin Gonsalves also put up a spectacular show for their team.
As both the teams were unable to break ice in the regulation time, the tie-breaker system had to be adopted wherein Francis Fernandes, Jayesh Chopdekar and Soma Korgaoncar scored for Adash.
Goa Velha could score only two shots accurately in the penalty shootout through Anthony Rego and Martin Gonsalves. Adarsh keeper Soma Korgaoncar was the hero of the day as he saved three penalties in the tie-breaker.
