Adarsh YS move into semis

MARGAO: Adarsh Yuvak Sangh, Saligao overcame a stiff challenge to defeat Goa Velha SC 4-3 via the tie-breaker and enter the semi-finals of Rossman Cruz FBM soccer at Nagoa grounds, Monday. Saligao will now meet St Sebastiao, Fatorda in the semi- finals on June 1.

Churchill Bros to clash with Pune FC

Dempo beat Air-India in 14-0

MARGAO: Defending champions Dempo Sports Club created history in the Indian Football scenario on Monday when they thrashed Air-India 14-0 in the I-league football match played at Nehru Staduim,here and assured themselves of a second spot in this prestigious tournament.  Dempo were leading 4-0 at the breather, though they could have scored at least four more goals in this half itself.

Salgaocar Sports Club clinches I-League Title

LUDHIANA: Salgaocar Sports Club clinched their maiden I-League title after recording a 2-0 victory over JCT in their last round match on Monday.  The Green Brigade from Goa made short work of JCT at the Guru Nanak Stadium here to finish at the top of the I-League table on 56 points from 26 matches, beyond the reach of any other club.

Sporting Clube walk past Churchill

Sporting Clube de Goa defeated Churchill Brothers 2-1 in Kingfisher Professional League at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, Thursday. Sporting led 2-0 at the break.  Sporting Clube dictated terms from the start, holding an upper hand in the midfield and remaining solid as a rock in the defence.

Adarsh Yuvak Sangh defeated St Sebastian, Mapusa 3-1 to move into the semi-finals of 18th Pilerne Panchayat Cup All-Goa inter-village football tournament organised by Pilerne Sports Club, at Pilerne ground, Thursday.
Adarsh forged ahead in the 4th minute through Clyde Dias off a long ranger from goalkeeper Sonam.  Adarsh doubled the lead immediately through Francis Fernandes off Clyde Dias’ superb pass.

Sporting squeeze past Goa Velha

After an exciting 90 minutes, Sporting Clube de Goa edged past 10-man Goa Velha Sports Club 2-1 in GFA’s Taca Goa U-20 First Division, at Duler stadium here, Wednesday. The match was goalless at the breather.  Goa Velha’s Joseph Rodrigues was sent off in the 71st minute, which allowed Sporting Clube to take advantage and score two goals in quick succession. Somshekar Kumbar netted a consolation goal from the penalty spot four minutes from time for Goa Velha.

St. Peter Boys champs

St Peter Boys, Tivai Vaddo defeated Valankanni Boys, Saligao 2-0 to win the 1st All-Goa 7-a-side soccer tournament organised by Queen Valankanni Boys, Calangute, recently. St Peter Boys were richer by Rs 10,000 while Valankanni Boys had to be content with Rs 7,000 alongwith trophies.  Following individual prizes were awarded: Highest goal scorer of the tournament Francis Coutinho (St Peter). Youth of Dramapur scored a 2-0 win over Santa Cruz of Tolleaband to emerge champs in Sucaldem Cup football tournament organised by Sucaldem Youth Club at Sucaldem ground, Chinchinim, recently. Dramapur led 1-0 at the breather.  Dramapur made their intentions clear as they instantly went on the offensive and it was Dramapur that enjoyed the better of the exchanges in both the sessions.

Salgaocar Jrs triumph

Salgaocar SC Juniors were crowned ‘India Champions’ when they defeated Mumbai FC 5-4 via the tie-breaker in the finals of NIKE-Manchester United Premier Cup soccer in Pune, Tuesday.  Earlier in the semi-finals, Salgaocar beat Guwahati Town Club 3-0 via the tie-breaker. Aldrich Fernandes saved all the three rival goal attempts.

Duhok ousts Dempo

It took a first half strike from Khaled Musher Ismail of Duhok Sports Club to send Dempo Sports Club packing out of AFC Cup in a one-legged round of 16 tie here on Tuesday.
Duhok played the ball forward and one of their forwards tried to make space when he was fouled on the edge of the area. Khalid stepped up and smacked one into the top corner right between goalkeeper Subashish Roy Chowdhary and the defender on the far post.
Ranti Martins came close to equalising with his heavy first touch, but a Duhok player snatched the ball after Ranti was one-on-one with the keeper.
A response from Dempo was expected in the second period but it never came. In the second half, Duhok dominated possession and closed the game down. Goa’s campaign in Santosh ends

Inclusion of non-Goan players, partiality flayed  Goa drew with Punjab 1-1 in the last quarter-final league match and even tough Services were beaten 0-2 by Railways, they bowed out from 65th Santosh Trophy National football championship in Guwahati, Tuesday. Impressive Railways continued their winning streak and made their way into the last four.

Goa managed to salvage their reputation when they held formidable Services to a 3-3 draw in their second Pool B quarter-final league match in Santosh Trophy National football championship at Guhuwati, Sunday. Goa thus collected their first point.

Ranti scores winner for Dempo

A second half header by Ranti Martins was enough for Dempo to go past Mumbai FC at Shahu Maharaj Stadium, Kolhapur, Thursday.  Mumbai had Abhishek Yadav and Henry Ezeh upfront with Ebi Sukore operating behind them. Armando Colaco started with Marcus Peixoto, Siavash Samenia, Mahesh Gawli, who recovered in time from dehydration and the knock on the head, and Valeriano Rebello in what was a makeshift defence while Nicolau Borges filled in for Clifford Miranda.

Holiday Club, Arpora prevailed over Milagres Sports Club 5-3 via the tie-breaker after a 1-1 draw to move into the semi-finals of Saligao United Cup soccer 9-a-side inter-village football tournament organised by Saligao United at Saligao Seminary ground, Thursday. There was no score at half time.

Salgaocar win, keep title race open

It was indeed a game of two halves but Salgaocar Sports Club’s performance in the second half was more fulfilling after a 3-2 win over East Bengal at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, Thursday.  For 45 minutes, Salgaocar looked all drowned as they were trailing 2-1.  The fear of East Bengal’s midfield dominating the centre came true with Pen Orji, Mehtab Hussain, Sushanth Mathew and Harmanjot Singh Khabra making Salgaocar look ordinary with strikers Tolgay Ozbey and Baljit Sahni constantly on the prowl.

Title race wide open: Armando

Dempo SC suffered an away defeat at the hands of East Bengal as the Red and Gold brigade edged past the defending champions by a 3-2 margin, last Sunday.  Coach Armando Colaco believes that his boys shall certainly bounce back from the defeat when they next face Mumbai FC in Kolhapur.

Churchill Brothers beat Crown Club, Santa Cruz 3-1 - 25-19, 22-25, 25-16, 25-15 to lift the YBP, Benaulim All-Goa volleyball trophy organised by Young Boys of Patrocin, recently. Yeshwant (Power), Raymond Santinamo, Vijay, Aaron, Manohar and Bharat excelled for Churchill while Pappu did well for Crown Club.

GFA to take up Vasco’s case

Vasco SC held a meeting with the Goa Football Association (GFA) executive secretary, Alberto Colaco on Tuesday, whereby it was agreed that the club’s appeal will be sent to the All India Football Federation (AIFF).  Seikhohao Tuboi has been deemed ‘ineligible’ by the AIFF and was barred from representing Shillong Lajong after four matches in the I-League Second Division despite no official protest being lodged against the club, given that Southern Samity’s complaint was dismissed for not being made before their first match.

National windsurfing flagged off

The National windsurfing championships were flagged off by veteran sailor and ten-time National champion, Derrick Menezes at Hawaii beach, Dona Paula, Tuesday. The championship will see three ex-National champions - Derrick Menezes, Remy Fernandes and Donald Coelho, vying for top honors, with INS Hansa’a Ramlal Seervi also in the ranks.

Betalbatim emerge U-16 champs

Bresources Betalbatim Sporting Club defeated Salgaocar Sports Club 1-0 to emerge champions in GFA’s U-16 State finals at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, Tuesday. The all-important goal came in injury time of the first half when defender Neville Albuquerque headed home off a flag kick taken by Quan Gomes.

Services boxing champs

The Services team claimed the 38th Boxing Federation Monnet Cup 2011 with 40 points in its kitty in the team championship organised by Goa Amateur Boxing Association at Calangute Association ground, Sunday. Haryana secured the second place with 20 points while Uttarakhand claimed the third place with 13 points. Goan boxers secured three bronze medals.

Dempo thrash Macasana

Dempo Sports Club scored a fluent 4-0 win over Macasana Welfare Club in GFA’s Taca U-20 at Curtorim ground, Tuesday. Thee was no score at half time. Dempo were in total command and virtually toyed with the rival weak defence. Dempo opened their scoring in the 74th minute when Jovito Fernandes bulged the net. The goal spurred Dempo to launch sporadic raids and Macazana’s citadel fell again in the 76th minute when Jorax Fernandes made it 2-0.

Youth of Dramapur came from behind to defeat Bandfol Sports Club 3-2 to cruise into the finals of Sucaldem Cup football tournament organised by Sucaldem Youth Club at Sucaldem ground, Chinchinim, Monday. Dramapur were trailing 0-1 at half time.

Deepak saves the day for Aivao United

A last gasp goal from Deepak Rajput rescued a point for Aivao United as they drew 2-2 with Bhagwati Sports Club in GFA’s U-20 Second Division at Dr Remigio Pinto ground, Taleigao on Monday. Bhagwati led 2-0 at the lemon break. Amit Kunkonkar got Bhagwati’s campaign off to a great start, netting after only ten minutes.

Ravi moots volleyball revival

Big time volleyball will grip Ponda and surrounding areas from May 18, as Home Minister, Ravi Naik, as President of one of the oldest clubs in the area - Jawahar Club of Ponda - is all set to launch an invitational volleyball tournament in memory of their ex-players Sharad Borkar, Mathias D’Costa and Cleto Caldeira figuring two prominent outstation teams, Marina Club of Chennai and Hyderabad XI besides the local ones.

AIFF may take action against Shillong Lajong

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is still examining the Seikhohao Tuboi case wherein a player was suspended midway through the I-League Second Division from playing for Shillong Lajong.  The player in question was registered at least with two State Associations simultaneously which was a clear disregard to the league’s regulation which states, “Only players who are first registered with the respective State association for the 2010-11 season are eligible to take part in the League.”

Betalbatim Sports Club marched into the finals of the GFA’s Under-16 play-off defeating Brasil Futebol Academia 4-3 via the tie-breaker at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Sunday. Betalbatim led 1-0 at the breather. Betalbatim coach Eban Mesquito was dramatically sent off in the 64th minute which amazingly left Betalbatim with no other official sitting on their bench.

It’s a miracle, admits Peter Vaz

"It’s a miracle. We rose from the ashes, so as to say. Justice has been finally done after the great setback of last year. We regained what we were forced to relinquish. The feeling is great,” commented Peter Vaz from Shillong after Sporting Clube de Goa regained the I-League position on Saturday.

Sporting Clube de Goa beat Royal Wahingdoh 2-0 on the final match day at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong to book a berth in next season’s I-League. Going into the match, the Flaming Orange were placed third on the table and needed a victory to guarantee their promotion.

Quadri thrashes Nagesh Naik

PANJIM: Bulcola Quadri thrashed Nagesh Naik 6-1, 6-1 to clinch men’ singles title at the all Goa Hotshots open tennis tournament held at Clube Tennis de Gasper Dias, Miramar on Saturday.  In ladies singles finals, Aishwarya Nunes beat Raisa Mergulhao 6-1, 6-2 to take the top honours while in men’s doubles finals, the pair of Bulcola Quadri and Nagesh Naik were made to toil hard in three sets to overcome the stiff challenge from Steve Gomes and Newton. Bulcola and Nagesh finally romped home 6-1, 3-6, 6-0.

PWD Beats Directorate of Agriculture

PANJIM: An unbeaten 60 by Mayur Naik and a useful 24 by Sameer Chodankar helped PWD beat Directorate of Agriculture by 15 runs to sail into the finals of the State Level Inter–Govt Dept T20 season ball cricket tournament organised by PWD Sports & Recreation Club in association with SAG, on Saturday.

Cavelossim Moves Into Quarter Finals

MARGAO: St Cruz Club of Cavelossim moved into the quarter-finals of St Anthony’s Super Soccer tournament with a 2-1 victory over Ambelim Sports Club at Directorate of Sports grounds, Colva on Sunday.  Although Ambelim played with only ten players as one of their key player did not turn up, they did give a tough fight to the Cavelossim lads.
