The 38th Boxing Federation Monnet Cup 2011 Championship organized by Goa Amateur Boxing Association got underway at Calangute Association ground on Thursday.
The inaugural bout in the men’s “light fly” (49kg) was comfortably won by Haryana’s Sandeep. Sandeep defeated Chandigarh’s Vikash Dahiya (4-1).
In another match, Goa’s Pushkar Pundalik scored a comfortable 9-5 victory by a very defensive approach throughout. Pundalik, who had taken a huge lead of 7-1 in the second round defeated Rajesh Kumar of Chandigarh.
In all, eight teams are participating: They are, Services, All India Police, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttarkand, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Goa. - Sports Reporter DLP
