Cortalim Gym and Fatima Convent champs

PANJIM: Cortalim Gymkhana and Fatima Convent won the boys and girls championship respectively in the Nike Elvino Memorial U-12 Football Festival for boys and girls organised by Salcete Football Club, Margao and played at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, Margao.
In a closely contested match, Cortalim Gymkhana upset title favourites Bresources, Betalbatim 6-5 via the tie-breaker. At the end of regulation time, the teams were tied 2-2.
In the semi-finals, Cortalim Gymkhana defeated Saviour of the World, Loutolim by 3-2 and Bresources defeated Salgaocar SC 2-0.
In the girls final, Fatima Convent defeated Our Lady of Snows HS, Raia 2-0.
Primeton Rebello of Bresources, Betalbatim was adjudged as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. Rollwin Almeida of Cortalim Gymkhana was the Most Valuable Player of the finals.
Other MVP awards went to Sadiq Shaik of Saviour of the World, Jonathan Viegas of Salgaocar SC, Flan Gomes of Bresources, Betalbatim. In the girls section, Ancine Fernandes of Fatima Convent got the MVP of the tournament award and Aguina Borges of Our Lady of Snows, Raia the MVP of the finals award.
Mr Climax Lawrence was the chief guest. Mr Mauricio Afonso was the guest of honour for the finals. Mr Armando Colaco, Mr Savio Medeira and the representatives of FC Mitjylland, Denmark witnessed the finals and distributed the prizes.  Thirty-one boys teams and four girls teams participated in the tournament.
