PANJIM: Goa Velha Sports Club defeated St Savio Sports Club Calangute 2-1 to make it to the quarters of the XVth Holy Cross inter-village football tournament, organised by Holy Cross Sports Club at Vodlemoll-Kakoda, on Friday.
St Savio SC dominated the first half and took the lead in the 4th minute of the match through the boots of Vijay Parsekar with a fine volley.
At the break, Calangute were leading by 1-0 goal. In the second half Goa Velha SC regrouped and played some fine football and were able to find the equaliser. Pravin Naik’s snapshot in the 55th minute entered Calangute goal giving their goalkeeper no chance. Goa Velha continued their dominance and scored the winning goal through the boots of Newton Gonsalves in the 59th minute.
