Laxmi Prasad beats Milagres 8-7 in tie breaker

MAPUSA: Laxmi Prasad Sports Club emerged unscathed from a high voltage Mapusa derby with a stunning 8-7 win via tie-breaker over old foes Milagres Sports Club to advance in the GFA’s Second Division League play-off at Duler grounds, Wednesday.
Milagres started on a bright note and winger Norwin Pontes should have done much better in front of a gaping goal after being fed by Waldron Martins. Instead, Laxmi Prasad surged ahead in the 37th minute. Nitin Dueskar latched on to a loose ball from Atish Shetgaonkar to slot it past a hapless Milagres keeper Avaiz Khan.
However, a minute before the break, Avito Fernandes found the equaliser following a strong run from striker Joalan Fernandes. Laxmi were in turn quick to restore their advantage barely five minutes into the half as medio Joelif Simoes bulldozed his way into the Mialgres box to punt home a delightful pass from Chandrasheker Shirodkar.
The drama continued as in the 71st minute, Milagres were back on level terms. Avito’s cross from the left was pulled across the face of the goal by Waldron and substitute Mario Fernandes made no mistake to sneak home the loose ball.
Five minutes later, an erroneous clearance from Milagres defender Drynan Pereira handed Nitin an easy finish, but the lanky lad made amends for his mistake at the other end of the field with a leveller in the 83rd minute.
In the ensuing shootout, Laxmi scored through Premnath Gadekar, Nitin Dueskar, Joelif Simoes, Atish Shetgaonkar and Jolious D’Costa, while Milagres were successful through Joachim Pacheco, Pascoal Furtado, Waldron Martins and Alastar Lobo.
