Chubby Cheeks, Porvorim reigned supreme after defeating Don Bosco Oratory 4-3 via the sudden death to take home the 1st Venky’s Youth Cup in association with Blackburn Rovers Football Club, at Poriat ground, Calangute on Friday. The match ended goalless after normal time.
“I am very excited with the result, the boy’s took some time to get going in the earlier rounds, but came back stronger in the semis and finals,” stated Chubby Cheeks coach Alex Alvares.
Hansen, Latesh, Avristo and Sairaj netted for Chubby Cheeks, while Jesus, Alwyn and Issac were on target for Don Bosco.
In the semi-finals, Chubby Cheeks defeated Anjuna Gymkhana 1-0, while Don Bosco edged out Mount Camel, Pernem 2-0. Thirty eight Goans were chosen for the training session on Saturday and ten lucky boys will be selected to join the ten Chubby Cheeks players in Pune on July 23.
Chubby Cheeks were richer by Rs 20,000 and a trophy while Don Bosco took home Rs 10,000. The two semi-finalists were richer by Rs 5,000 each.
