Ponjekars meet CM, stress on rebuiding Campal Stadium

A delegation of prominent citizens representing different Campal, Mira Mar, Santa Ines areas, sports clubs and institutions from Panjim, led by Leader of the Opposition and MLA, Manohar Parrikar, met the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, to press their case for rebuilding Campal football stadium.
The delegation included Arjuna Awardee and former India captain Brahmanand Shankwalkar, CCP Councillor Surendra Furtado, Dr Rufino Monteiro (Friends of Football), Sandeep Heble (Panjim Sports Festival Committee), Chetan Kavlekar (Panjim Table Tennis Club), Michael Ribeiro (Kaddint Boys), Leslie Roncon (Young Boys of Campal), Joaquim Teles (Panjim Traditional Festival and Sports Committee), Angelo Albuquerque (Panjim Footballers), Manoj Patil, representatives of few other clubs, among others.
They briefed the CM about the entire issue and submitted a petition demanding the immediate re-construction of a state-of-the-art football stadium at Campal with adequate parking, traffic management. It was pointed out that plans for a stadium had already been prepared by GSIDC.
The Chief Minister assured the delegation that he would study the plans before moving ahead to solve the grievances of the sportspersons and the city residents as speedily as possible. Dr Rufino stated that the Chief Minister had not spoken about the place being converted into parking area for Kala Academy and that he would study the matter of building a small stadium. - DLP
