PANJIM: League leaders Salgaocar maintained their lead at the top of the points table with a resounding 5-0 win over ONGC in their 16th round match of the I-League played at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda on Sunday.
For ONGC, it was always going tough to face the in-form and sublime Salgaocar especially at home and the hosts made the most of the opportunity adding yet another superb victory in their kitty.  The rampage started on 29th minute, when the experience Yusif Yakubu found the back of the net before adding his second in the second half, five minutes before the end of the match.
But, the man who gave the stand out performance was young Gilbert Oliveira, who not only bagged a brace, but also was declared the Man of the Match for his excellent performance.
The Goan lad scored the second goal five minutes before the break, while he completed his brace and scored third goal for Salgaocar in the 50th minute before Ryuji Sueoka added another one in the 54th minute.
The win take Karim Bencherifa-coached side to 37 points, five points clear from the second place East Bengal.  In another match played in Kolhapur on Sunday, Air India came from a goal down to play a 1-1 draw against Kolkata-based Chirag United in their 16th round I-League match.
