BZSD FOOTBALL LEAGUE TO HAVE SEVEN TEAMS

PANJIM: The Bardez Zone Second Division football league will have seven teams, after Laxmi Prasad and Saligao United were kept out following a decision by the GFA Executive Committee here on Thursday.
The decision to keep Laxmi Prasad and United Saligao out was taken up based on the legal advice tendered by Adv Subodh Kantak as Laxmi Prasad had submitted their entry much after the deadline for renewal while Saligao United were found to be the third team to be promoted when the rules provided for two only. In this case, Sesa FA and Penha de Franca were the promoted teams.
Tony Remedios, president of Saligao Sporting, who along with with six other clubs had appealed to the GFA that only 8 teams be allowed in the Bardez Zone, said, “Our stand stands vindicated at last.”
Tony stated that the clubs had sought to know why nine clubs were being slotted to participate in the Second Division instead of eight clubs as approved at the Annual General Body Meeting and had demanded that the minutes of the Executive Committee meetings where the decision was taken to include Saligao United be made available to them.
Tony stated that it is unfair and illogical to blame the clubs for the delay in starting the Bardez Zone League. The main reason was the non-submission of the minutes of the two meetings, he added.
The GFA Executive Committee ultimately decided to go by the legal advice tendered by Adv Kantak and excluded Laxmi Prasad and Saligao United, thus making ethe league a seven-member team affair.
