CALANGUTE MPT DRAW 1-1

MAPUSA: Calangute Association failed to make the most of their home advantage as they played out s 1-1 draw against Mormugao Port Trust Sports Club in the GFA First Division League at Poriat grounds, on Wednesday.

Calangute, hoping to bounce back from a recent defeat got their acts going in the sixth minute itself but, Pedro Gonsalves’ close range attempt went inches wide of the mark.

The Calangute lads were calling the shots as Sunfors Cardozo and Manuel Crasto came close with their tries.

But their inability to convert their chances cost them dearly as MPT striker Joe Colaco held on to a Recson Quadros ball to find the Calangute nets in the 32nd minute.

However, it took only eight minutes for Calangute to restore parity as Pedro got ahead of his marker to strike home a delightful cross from Franky Periera.

Crossing over, Calangute applied tremendous pressure, however, MPT center-backs Reliston Fernandes and Niazi Sheikh along with keeper Caitanio Fernandes held fort to sneak home a point.
