Calangute beat Corps of Signals 3-2

MAPUSA: Calangute Association survived a late scare before getting the better of Corps of Signals 3-2 in the GFA’s First Division League match played at Poriat grounds, Calangute on Tuesday.

Calangute, looking to build on their recent home victories got off to a bright start as, striker Shadabe Sheikh latched on to a crisp pass from Stanley Coutinho before firing past the Signals keeper in the very 12th minute of play.
However, minutes before the breather, the Signals lads were back on level pegging as Pankaj Gorkha capitalised on a misunderstanding between Calangute defender Mohammad Ali and keeper Agnelo Fernandes, 1-1.
Crossing over, play was mostly confined to the midfield with both sides playing aggressive soccer.
The home side however got out of their shells in the closing stages of the match with quick goals from Shadabe and Pedro Gonsalves in the 75th and 80th minute respectively.
Complacency however soon crept into the Calangute outfit as they allowed medio Budhi Bhadur to essay a long pass to Pankaj Gorkha who did well to make it 3-2. Under pressure, the Calangute lads however held fort for the remainder of the match to seal three points.
