DEMPO CRUSHED MOHUN BAGAN 4-1

PANJIM: Defending champions Dempo Sports Club continued their unbeaten run in the second-leg as they rode on a fine brace by Clifford Miranda to thrash Kolkata’s Mohun Bagan 4-1 in their I-League encounter at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda-Margao on Thursday.
Dempo, who outplayed Bagan, scored through Climax Lawrence (26’), Clifford Miranda (30’,74’) and Ranty Martins (47’) while Bagan scored a consolation goal through Subair Muritala Ali in the 89th minute.
Dempo midfield slowly took control over the proceedings, retaliated with a swift move and took the lead in the 26th minute.  Roberto Silva from the right split the rival defence with a measured cross into the box and Climax Lawrence who followed the move met the ball with a diving header to find the back of the net.
Bagan defence started showing signs of nerves and fell apart four minutes later when Ranti Martins split the defence with a through pass to Clifford Miranda. Dhanarajan R who tried to clear the ball met in vain and Clifford chipped the ball with his outstretched leg into the empty net with keeper Shilton Paul out of his charge.
Dempo again scored in the 47th minute. Roberto who had his hand in the first goal sent a deep cross into the box for Ranti Martins who headed the ball into the net with keeper Shilton failing to thwart him.  Thereafter, it was Dempo all the way as they made a barrage of moves and after missing handful of chances scored again to take the match away from Bagan.
Roberto Silva who linked up with Ranti upfront played the role of the provider once again as he slipped the ball to Clifford Miranda on the left who found the roof of the net with a left-footer.  Bagan tried to pull one back and scored in the dying minute when Muritala Ali found the net after Rakesh Masih’s shot from top of the box hit the rival defender and came back to him.
