Dempo crush Air India 4-0

Air India got a taste of what class is all about when they took on Dempo Sports Club who demolished them 14-0 in their clash of 4th I-League at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, Monday. Dempo led 4-0 at the break. Air India were outplayed on both halves during which their citadel fell four times. Fortunately, the host team’s story of missed opportunities continued through to a lesser degree before they tripped to a 14-0 win.
The Goans egged on by supporters, enjoyed total domination in both attack and defence and Air India were handed their worst defeat in the I-League.
Dempo owe their huge victory margin to man-of-the-match Ranty Martins and playmaker Robert Mendes da Silva. It was Ranty who put Dempo into the lead in the 33rd minute after he received a pass from Beto and the former slotted it past the Air India hapless keeper Souvik Mondal.
Thereafter, most part of the match resembled quite like those training sessions you watch early morning, those small defensive training games where the goalkeeper is bombarded with attacks.
Dempo incredibly enjoyed atleast 95 per cent of ball possession. Seven minutes later Peter Carvalho’s smart header grazed the ground and eluded the Air India keeper off a chip from Clifford Miranda from the left to make it 2-0.
In the 40th minute, Ranty completed his brace after he picked up a ball from Clifford Miranda.
At the strike of the lemon break, Climax Lawrence added his name on the scorer list off a pass by Beto.
The second half did not bring any respite for Air India as Dempo outplayed their opponents in all departments. Dempo did not have to wait for long to score the fifth goal soon after resumption when Beto came up with a clinical finish as he easily got the better of a rival defender before punishing Air India keeper with an adroit placement.
A couple of minutes later, Beto registered his brace after being fed by defender Valeriano Rebello.
Midfielder Peter Carvalho struck a second time after being fed on a platter by Beto. Ranty scored the team’s eighth goal in the 70th minute after he received a pass from Kalu Obga.
Here on a rain of goals began with Ranty scoring in the 76th minute off a pass from Climax Lawrence.  Beto and Ranty pumped in two more goals each to rub salt to Air India’s injury. Earlier, substitute Cliffton Gonsalves added his name to the scorer list.  Young midfielder Godwin Franco alongwith Climax Lawrence spelt trouble for Air India’s defence. With this win, Dempo kept hopes alive for a runners-up spot. - Sent by DLP
