Sporting Clube optimistic after AFC-AIFF visit for pro-licensing

The AFC-AIFF delegation for verifying club license criteria for professional clubs looked very impressed after the visit to newly promoted Sporting Clube de Goa, Saturday.  The six-member strong delegation led by Suzuki, AFC’s Director of Competitions, and which included AIFF’s CEO Sunando Dhar and Roma Khanna and AFC’s Benjamin Tan, Steve Kim and Laksoud, inspected the facilities including the practice ground, gymnasium and home venue for the I-League matches and the club house where they interacted with the designated club officials.
The delegation paid a visit to Don Bosco’s in Panjim and had an interaction with Fr Wilfred Fernandes, Administrator, who confirmed that the school had entered into a long term partnership with Sporting Club de Goa not only for grassroots and youth development programmes but also in terms of making available their lush grounds as well as the modern, well equipped gymnasium with all facilities. Fr Wilfred also gave the details of the community development and social responsibility aspects being undertaken in collaboration with the B P Ed department of Don Bosco College.
The delegation had one-to-one to meetings with president, Peter Vaz, top clubs officials and head of various departments - CEO Victor Fernandes, Durgas Kalangutkar, Anju Albuquerque, Pascoal Pereira, Alex Alvares, Anthony Pereira, Carlton D’Mello, Anselm Noronha.
“We had prepared adequately to meet the licensing criteria for professional clubs. We have all the departments with qualified heads and most of them are professionals who work exclusively for the club on full-time basis,” stated Victor, who has taken over as full time Chief Executive Officer.
Peter was highly optimistic after the visit of the high-powered delegation. “We have appointed competent staff as heads of various departments including legal, finance, youth development, media, marketing and merchandising, medical, competitions and a few others which are mandatory as per the licensing norms. We have also entered into partnerships with several schools for our grassroots, youth development programme,” remarked Peter. “We also have plans to launch the fans club with structured organisation for attending the club’s matches,” added Peter. - Sports Reporter DLP
