Prasanna lifts chess crown

Prasanna Swamy drew her last round match with defending champion Gauri Hadkonkar to emerge State women champion at Shripad Vishnu Kamat Tarcar memorial women chess championship organised by JCI St Inez in association with SAG and Goa Chess.
Association, at Indoor Stadium, Campal, Panjim, Tuesday.  Prasanna put up a fine consistent performance throughout, scoring 5.5 points out of a possible 6 and remained undefeated throughout. Sukanya Chari emerged runner-up with five points while Gauri Hadkonkar and Aishwarya Thorat also with five points each, had to settle for the third and 4th place prizes respectively. The 5th to 7th places were bagged by Aditee Prabhugaonkar, Apurva Naik and Sayani Kerkar respectively scoring 4.5 points each while Sampada Barve, Vandana Bandodkar and Sachi Bandodkar emerged 8th, 9th and 10th, securing four points each.
Gunjal Chopdekar, Faiziya Khan, Vidula Dempo and Disha Verenkar bagged the outstanding player prizes in the U-7, U-9, U-11 and U-13 categories respectively. The promising player prizes were awarded to Sushma Kalyan, Tayeb Gaded, Lubne Naz and Prajakta Naik.
Dr Sanjeev Dalvi, deputy director, Azilo Hospital, Mapusa was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of guest of honour, Chaitanya Tarcar, Virashree Hotels, JC Uma Sakahrdande, president, JCI St Inez, Ashish Keni, president, GCA, Arvind  Mhamal, secretary, GCA and Arbiters D R Pinge and T Kaisare. Tournament coordinator, Sandeep Heble compered. He later proposed the vote of thanks. - DLP
