PCE Rego’s win PWD cricket tournament

PANJIM: PCE Rego’s team won the first inter SD/WD/CO tennis ball cricket tournament organised by PWD’s Sports & Recreation Club in association with Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) at the open football ground at Fatorda, Margao.
In the finals, PCE Rego’s team defeated Works Division IX by 27 runs to lift the Vijai Sardesai trophy and also pocketed winners cash prize of ` 10,000 sponsored by Circle Office III & Works Division XVIII of PWD.
Works Division IX had to be content with the runners-up trophy and a cash prize of ` 5,000. Semi-final losers WD XIV and SD II/WD III were given cash prize of ` 3,000 each.
Chief guest Mr Vijai Sardessai congratulated the PWD Sports & Recreation Club for organising the tournament and promised his full support for the upcoming PWD’s inter- government department Twenty-20 leather ball cricket tournament to be played from April 9 to May 8.
The Principal Chief Engineer, Mr Joseph Rego after collecting the winners trophy, commended the efforts of the Sports Secretary Mr Gomakant Mahambrey and the organising committee members and voiced the need to have more such tournaments in all the Sports Disciplines every year.
Samir Chodankar (O/o PCE) was adjudged the man of the series and the man of the finals besides he also won the prize for hitting highest number of sixes. Shailesh Naik (WD XIV) won the prize for scoring highest runs in the tournament while Someshwar Adpaikar (O/o PCE) won the best batsman prize. Narayanrao Dasari (SDII/WDIII) received best bowler prize and Sanjivkumar Nipanikar (WD II) was awarded best fielder. Uday Kundaikar (WD V) won the highest wicket taker prize.  Treasurer of the PWD Sports & Recreation Club, Mr Nitin Neurenkar proposed the vote of thanks.
